Andrew Benator (Mark) Off-Broadway debut. In New York, he was seen in Our Country’s Good at Third Eye Rep. Regional: The Sisters Rosensweig (San Jose Rep), Changes of Heart (Berkeley Rep), Dog Opera (Magic Theatre), A Rosen by Any Other Name (Stamford Theater Works). Film: A Happy Life. Television: The Curse of the Somers. Andrew is a graduate of the American Conservatory Theater and a member of Rude Mechanicals Theater Company. He thanks his family and The Barrow Group.

Kate Gleason (Nancy) New York theatre credits include: A Flea in her Ear (Roundabout Theatre Company, Bill Irwin, director); Flight Courier Service and Burlesque (Richard Maxwell, director), The Forgery and The Four Twins (all with Ontological Theater); and Clowns Plus Wrestlers at The Kitchen. Regional credits include: The Last Night of Ballyhoo and Don Quixote at the Denver Center Theater Company; Dreading Thekla (premiere), Dead End and Richard Maxwell's Burger King, all with the Willimstown Theatre Festival. Hazelle Goodman (Grace) Heralded as this year's newest star, Hazelle Goodman is a one-woman powerhouse. Her unique ability to transform into many different characters has propelled her to the forefront as a multi-dimensional actress. Featured in Vogue, People and Vibe magazines, her self-titled HBO special received unprecedented ratings for a newcomer and was nominated for two Cable Ace awards - Best Comedy Special and Best Performer. Hazelle recently starred opposite Woody Allen in the groundbreaking role of 'Cookie' in Allen's Deconstructing Harry and also as the diva drug lord, 'Georgia Rae Mahoney' on NBC's "Homicide." Last summer, Hazelle made her Shakespearean debut as the Queen in the Public Theatre's production of Cymbeline. Hazelle is currently appearing on ABC's "All My Children" as attorney 'Lynette O'Neal.'

Mark Kassen (Ben) walks down the streets of NYC grateful to be home. Not that he didn’t enjoy his past 2 1/2 years in Los Angeles. He was given wonderful opportunities in film, television and theatre. It’s just that a person can only take so much sun and palm trees. This past year Mark was proud to perform in the L.A. production of The Last Night of Ballyhoo. He recently completed work on the independent film Trigger Happy, directed by Julian West. This is the first project from Mark’s "Shades of Gray" productions. Mark would like to thank Sandie Shurin for her wonderful teaching, John Rando and Peter Ackerman for giving him this experience and his family for their tolerance and love.

Peter Rini (Gene) originated the role of Vinnie Bavasi in the World Premiere of Neil Simon's Proposals on Broadway last year. He then played Marco in last season's revival of A View from the Bridge opposite Tony Danza. Other Broadway credits include Tartuffe: Born Again with John Glover at Circle in the Square. Off Broadway credits include Somewhere in the Pacific at Playwright's Horizons (dir. Mark Brokaw) and The Merchant of Venice at the NYSF (dir. Barry Edelstein). Peter has worked in the regions at the Long Wharf, Pittburgh Public, Berkshire Theatre Festival, The Kennedy Center and the Ahmanson in LA. Film credits include: The Juror, Barry Levinson's Sleepers, and the upcoming Boiler Room (winter 2000 release). Television: HBO's "Sex and the City". For Dad.

Larry Storch (Mr. Abramson) is celebrating 60 years as an entertainer. Most recently he appeared in Purlie at the Kennedy Center and After Play with Anne Meara at the George Street Playhouse. His last appearance at the Promenade was Breaking Legs with Vincent Gardenia and Philip Bosco. His Broadway credits include Who Was That Lady with Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healy and the revival of Arsenic and Old Lace starring Jean Stapleton and Marion Ross. He also appeared in the Metropolitan Opera's record-breaking run as well as the national and European tours of Porgy and Bess. Film credits include Airport '75 and Bridges of Madison County. On TV, he is best known as Agarn in the popular series "F Troop," and has been seen in countless series', including "Columbo," "Sonny and Cher" and "All in the Family."

 

The Production

Peter Ackerman (Playwright) directed two of his one-acts, Dancers and Broken Creatures, and staged a reading of his full-length play, Thanksgiving, while earning an MFA in Acting at the American Conservatory Theater. The Urn, which received a reading at Playwrights Horizons in December of 1998, will be directed by Robert Davenport at the Irish Arts Center in July of 1999. As an actor, he has performed off-Broadway with Eli Wallach in Visiting Mr. Green, with the experimental theatre company, Elevator Repair Service, at PS 122 and in Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Ljubljana. His two-man vaudeville show, The Hate Brothers (which he co-wrote and co-performed with Christopher Hickman) ran at Solo Arts Group. He has also acted in New York at La Mama ETC, The New York Fringe Festival, HERE, regionally at ACT, Center Rep, Artists Rep, the Oregon One-Act Festival, and in the film Things Terrestrial.

Rob Odorisio (Set Designer) Thanks, John! New York credits include Lips at Primary Stages, Plunge at Playwrights Horizons, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Good as New, and The English Teachers at Manhattan Class Company, Stomp, Family Secrets, Inside Out, as well as work at The WPA, Second Stage, Circle Repertory, Jewish Repertory, Theatreworks/USA, The Julliard School, Soho Repertory and Naked Angels. Regionally his designs have been seen at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Dallas Theatre Center, George Street Playhouse, Hartford Stage Company, Missouri Repertory Theatre, Playmakers Repertory, Studio Arena Theatre, Sundance Theatre Institute, Syracuse Stage, and Walnut Street Theatre just to name a few! Mr. Odorisio has served as an Art Director for The Guiding Light, Eric Bogosian’s feature film Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll, and several after-school specials.

Tom Broecker (Costume Designer) New York credits include Side Man (Broadway and WTG), Never the Sinner (off-Broadway), Century City (WPA), Arabian Nights (American Theatre Wing nomination), Seeking the Genesis, Nine Armenians and Holiday Heart for Manhattan Theatre Club; First Lady Suite at the Public Theatre; and Moe’s Lucky Seven for Playwrights Horizons. Regionally, Tom has designed for Bay Street Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Hartford Stage, Center Stage, McCarter Theatre, Portland Stage, Yale Rep and Williamstown Theatre Festival. For television, Tom designed the short lived House Party with Steeve Dooly, Love in the Ancient World with Kathleen Turner for A&E, The Halloween Show for Rosie O’Donnell and is currently the costume designer for Saturday Night Live. Tom is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.

Karen Moore (Production Stage Manager) has been the Production Stage Manager for James Naughton: Street of Dreams, Visiting Mr. Green, Das Barbecü, Fires in the Mirror, Closer Than Ever, An Unfinished Song, and Steel Magnolias. Other credits include shows for Manhattan Theatre Club, WPA, Lambs Theatre, Encores! productions of Promises, Promises and Boys from Syracuse, and Tallulah starring Kathleen Turner for the Coconut Grove Playhouse.

Karen Evanouskas (Assistant Stage Manager) most recently worked on Communicating Doors starring Mary-Louise Parker. Other credits include Visiting Mr. Green, Bunny Bunny, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged), Das Barbecü, Yoko Ono’s New York Rock, Jeffrey, and numerous shows for the WPA theatre.

 
Good Friends (Producers):

Jeffrey Richards has produced The Compleat Works of Wllm Skspr (Abridged), David Ives’ Mere Mortals, directed by John Rando, and John Logan’s Outer Critics Circle Award winning Never the Sinner, directed by Ethan McSweeny. A native Manhattanite, he has represented over 200 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions as a press representative. Mr. Richards is a graduate of Wesleyan University. Michael B. Rothfeld This is Mr. Rothfeld's first venture in theater production and he is delighted to be associated with Good Friends/Jeffrey Richards in this project. Over the last 28 years, Mr. Rothfeld has been a journalist, investment banker, and investment principal, none of which prepared him for this endeavor. He lives with his family in New York.

Richard Gross is a Washington lawyer, married to a Washington lawyer, whose children will grow up to be Washington lawyers. He attended Weleyan University with Jeffrey Richards, co-produced The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged), Mere Mortals and Never the Sinner with Jeffrey Richards and remains friends with Jeffrey Richards…remarkably.

Ellen Berman is President of the Consumer Energy Council of America, the nation's leading energy policy organization, as well as an active member of the Cosmos Club and the Council for the Arts at MIT. A graduate of Barnard College, Ellen's love of theatre began at age six, in Danville, Virginia, when she played Queen Esther in her Sunday school Purim play. Though her acting career ended at that point, her passion for theatre grew unabated. She is delighted to have become a member of Good Friends. Her next theatrical project will be The Housewives of Mannheim by Alan Brody.

 
Jean Doumanian (Producer) has a long and distinguished career in film, theatre, and television. Her long-time collaboration with Woody Allen has resulted in the critically acclaimed films Deconstructing Harry (Academy Award nomination), Bullets Over Broadway (seven Academy Award nominations and an Academy Award), Mighty Aphrodite (Academy Award), and Everyone Says I Love You. Recent film releases include David Mamet’s The Spanish Prisoner and Barbara Kopple’s Wild Man Blues. Ms. Doumanian is currently working on four new projects: Sean Smith’s and Anthony Stark’s Into My Heart; Tom Donaghy’s The Story of a Bad Boy; Nelson Hume’s Sunburn; and Cherry Pink, directed by Jason Alexander. Ms. Doumanian’s career in various mediums is impressive. Her film The Ox was nominated for an Academy Award, and the Off-Broadway play Death Defying Acts broke box office records. Most recently, she produced the Obie Award winning musical Dinah Was, which starred Yvette Freeman and Lillias White. Television producing credits include Woody Allen’s "Don’t Drink the Water," "Saturday Night Live," "Bob and Ray, Jane and Gilda" and "The Dick Cavett Show," (Emmy Award). Jean Doumanian productions is based in New York City.

Ted Snowdon (Producer) is currently a producer of David Marshall Grant’s hit play Snakebit at the Century Center in Union Square. He has been a presenter of two critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway transfers from Primary Stages: David Ives’ Mere Mortals and Colin Martin’s Virgins & Other Myths. He co-produced Brad Fraser’s Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love both Off-Broadway and in Chicago and did likewise with the Cole Porter revue Cole in San Francisco and L.A. As a director, he staged the New York premieres of As to the Meaning of Words and the London success Crystal Clear. Last season he presented The Adjustment with the Jewish Rep. His Broadway producing credits include The Twilight of the Golds and the 1979 Best Play Tony winner The Elephant Man.

Steven M. Levy (Producer) produced The Beauty Queen of Leenane (four Tony Awards), As Bees in Honey Drown, June Moon, Never the Sinner, The Boys in the Band (Off Broadway & West End), and Party (NY & L.A.). Management: Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, Power Plays, Dinah Was, Grace and Glorie, Molly Sweeney, Neil Simon’s London Suite; and A Bronx Tale. Mr. Levy is also an owner of the Actors’ Playhouse in Greenwich Village and the Gramercy Theatre on 23rd Street.

Leonard Soloway (Producer) Producing credits include The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Gross Indecency, As Bees in Honey Drown, The Shadow Box (Tony Award, Pulitzer Prize), Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor, and the critically acclaimed production of Party. Mr. Soloway has served as the General Manager for over 100 Broadway productions, and is an owner of the Actors’ Playhouse in Greenwich Village and the Gramercy Theatre on 23rd Street.
